The
Chairman of the Vice Chancellors of Public Traditional Universities; Prof.
Richard Amankwah and his colleagues called on the Management of the Ghana
Tertiary Education Commission, GTEC to deliberate on ways and means by which
the two bodies can work together to strengthen Tertiary educational delivery in
the country.
During
the meeting, the two bodies discussed issues pertaining to recruitment and
replacement of faculty and staff bothering on automatic replacement of same,
improvement of road networks of the different institutions, completion of
stalled projects especially those under GETFUND, and most importantly
collaboration and dialogue being a tool of addressing issues of differences
that might arise between these two bodies how such engagements can be
institutionalized.
The
Director General of GTEC, Prof Ahmed Jinapor congratulated the new leadership
of VCG on assumption of office and promised GTEC's commitment to supporting VCG
in positioning Ghana's Universities as the most attractive in the West African
Subregion. He indicated that it is as part of this vision that in recent times
the commission has been working towards sanitizing the Doctoral/Professorial
title space. He asked for the support of VCG in this direction.
Prof.
Richard Amankwah, Vice Chancellor of UMaT, who doubles as the Chairman of VCG
expressed appreciation and commendation to GTEC for the bold initiative of
purging the Ghanaian society of this menace and promised on the part of VCG to
take up the responsibility of educating the general public on the consequences
of using unearned titles.
