GTEC Arrests Director of Nyarkotey University for running Unaccredited Programs

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has taken decisive action against Nyarkotey University College of Holistic Medicine and Technology, located in Ashaiman, Greater Accra Region, for offering unaccredited academic programs and operating an unapproved health facility.

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, GTEC officials, accompanied by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), arrested Dr. Ademan Tetteh, one of the institution's directors and co-owners. The arrest followed the failure of the university's authorities to provide proof of accreditation for its programs. The Registrar of the school was also detained for further questioning.

Two other directors, Daniel Tetteh Boafo and Professor Nyarkotey Obu, were not present during the operation. Investigations also revealed that Dr. Tetteh was allegedly using an unearned doctorate title, which he claimed was honorary.

Speaking to the media, GTEC's Director for Corporate Affairs, Jerry Sarfo, emphasized the Commission's commitment to enforcing compliance with accreditation standards. "We have repeatedly urged institutions to adhere to regulatory requirements, yet some continue to violate these guidelines. Today’s action underscores our resolve to uphold the integrity of tertiary education in Ghana," he stated.

Mr. Sarfo added that further investigations would be conducted to verify the legitimacy of the honorary titles and the institution's operations. GTEC remains steadfast in its mission to ensure quality education and protect students from unaccredited programs.

The suspects are currently assisting the police with investigations. GTEC urges the public to verify the accreditation status of any institution before enrolling.
